so after much thought, i've finally decided to post my own problems on here. I'll cut right to the chase.
i am currently running windows 7, 64-bit.
countless times i have tried to install thief gold onto my computer. i go into the cd, and start the setup there (with admin rights on). i am treated to a loading icon only for a few seconds and then vanishes and im back where i started.
i tried the classic "D:\setup -lgntforce" remembering to put the D drive to where my cd is in (the H drive) still nothing. i see the loading icon for a sec, then it stops.
i tried "regsvr32 "H:\THIEF\LGVID.AX" says the dll register server has succeed but still. does not help my install in any way.
i moved the cd files onto my hard drive, and tried to set it up that way. still nothing.

after that huge fiasco, i thought maybe i had a faulty cd (my thief 2 cd is having the same problems)
i need help. i tried everything. went on forums for days now. i'm sick of watching the cutscenes on youtube, trying to fill in the gaps that thief deadly shadows has left me.
yes, i've only played thief deadly shadows...
please help!

Can you copy the entire CD contents to a temporary folder on your hard drive? You should be able to install by running the setup file you copied over.
Only other thing I can think of is to turn UAC off whilst you install the game.

ok the uac is off, moved the files to the hard drive. setup is doing the same thing.
i should note when i open the task manager i can see the setup running in the processes.

If it's running in the background, then I think you need to leave it. I don't know what Microsoft changed between XP and Vista, but the installer takes up to 2 hours to get to the splash screen.
Oh, and make sure you run with administrative rights. Other than that, I'm all out of ideas :(

aw, bummer... thank you for helping.
eidos needs to re-release these games, god dammit. hopefully they'll consider it if/when they manage to release thief 4.
