Choose the navy career to get some hack stats right away, then onboard the VB invest in some standard weapon skills to protect yourself and then hack stats again. For several reasons the agility trait should also be upped whenever you have spare modules or can make an upgrade.

In other words-- to maker a shooter/hacker, put points into shooting and hacking.

Become a hacker, but don't forget to shoot the many!

I'd say at first put points into Hack. Get it to 3 on MedSci (to hack Replicators and Security Crates), 4 on Engineering (to hack Turrets) and get Standard to 3 to use the shotgun, you must do this, without the Shotgun you'll run out of bullets to use against the protocol droids in Engineering. When you reach Engineering, start putting points into Maintenance, also some Strength (to be able to carry more weapons), Agility (not as important IMO but upgrade it a little), Endurance (to be able to take more damage). Cyb is useful for easier hacks. Don't bother with Repair and don't put anything in Research until the plot requires you to (on Deck 3). Also don't bother with Psy, costs too many modules. I'd say maybe get Energy 1 to use the laser pistol (I never do this but it could be useful). Later on get Heavy for the grenade launcher but don't get it all the way to 6, the other Heavy weapons suck IMO. Heavy 3 is enough, gives the launcher a little more punch. Modify 1 is useful.
This also depends on difficulty, my recommendations are for Normal (or maybe Hard), on Impossible you won't be able to do all of this.

Ugh, not the grendade launcher. Pain in the ass having to make inventory space for all the different ammo types it uses. Only thing Heavy is useful for is the Stasis Cannon, and the Stasis Cannon is only useful for one part of the game.
Psi Pull is useful for all characters since that's the only way to retrieve some items.

A good hacker don't needs PSI!

We've conclusively established that you don't know anything about being a good hacker.

Yeah, I see your point. On Normal it's perfectly doable because there are enough modules to get Strength to 5 or 6 (I tend to go to 5 plus a Brawnboost), so there's enough inventory space for all the grenade types, but on higher difficulties this may be a problem.

Yeah but only a very few items, and the tradeoff is that it costs an extra 3 inventory slots for the Psi Amplifier.
