Clarification needed on GarrettLoader and FMs - by doctormidnight

doctormidnight, you know the first five points aren't going to bring in many players :) It's too cumbersome, why one needs to reinstall TDS to be able to play an FM ?? I think they should be removed.

Will GarrettLoader write back the original t3gamesys.t3u since Gonchong's mission overwrites the one in Thief3.
Could this be causing problems?

It should do, it would have been backed up and when installing another FM or resoring the original missions it will also be restored to the original one from the Original _backup.zip file.

This would also explain why the objectives do not show properly and why GarrettLoader comes up with the warning that you have the wrong T3main.exe.OK, you still aren't understanding what I'm saying. When I replace the T3Main.exe with the one I downloaded from your site (with the later date) GarrettLoader gives an error. It DOES NOT give an error when I use the original .exe that came with the game.
If I try to use the EDITOR version of T3main.exe (again, the one from your site), not a single mission will load, even the "original" game. If I use the ORIGINAL T3main.exe, everything runs fine with the exception of the objectives.

Uninstalling the game only takes about 30 seconds, and reinstalling takes maybe 5 minutes on a decent machine. Besides, the advantages of installing in this manner mean that they should be able to avoid any nasty pitfalls including funky registry entries, accidentally losing savegames, and unforseen boo-boos.
Plus these are generally Thief fans, they'd spend a night in Shalebridge sleeping next to a horny Burrick if it meant they got to play some new levels. However, I will put in something that says "If you haven't screwed around with your Thief 3 install, you don't need to uninstall but it's always a good idea to start with a fresh installation."

I am seeing almost the exact same thing that doctormidnight is seeing.
1) If I replace the T3main.exe with the one from the GL website, then in GL, when I browse for T3.exe directory, I get the error message that says it isn't the right version. Playing a FM will work but I don't get custom briefings, objectives, or books.
2) If I use the the T3main.exe that came with the game, GL does NOT complain, and the FM loads. Briefings and books show up fine. The only problem is objectives, some of which are blank (just like in doctormidnight's screen grabs).
I know this doesn't make any sense, but that is what I am seeing.

I think the problem here seems to be down to date formats then, joebarnin, I take it you are in the US as well? If so could you do a quick test and change the date formatting on your PC to be uk format dd/mm/yyyy and try again with the one from my site?
If this is the case I will get GL to do a conversion first before checking the dates.

The problem that he didn't install patch 1.1 cause t3.exe version 1.1 already has 22 september 2004 year, another way it could'n be the earlier date.
potterr on 22/9/2005 at 17:23
Logan, that could be it as well.
joebarnin, doctormidnight I have PM'd you with a link to a test version of GL to see if it is the way GL is checking for the date format.

Having tried a test version of the next version of GL with joebarnin, I can confirm that the problem doctormidnight was having was down to the US date format.
Couple of things you could do here:
1) change your PCs date format to dd/mm/yyyy and use a sensible date construct :p :cheeky:
2) Manually update your GarrettLoader.ini file (in program files/garrettloader) at the section that says:
[T3GAME]
you will need to type your thief 3 T3.exe location manually on the line below, e.g.:
[T3GAME]
D:\Program Files\Thief - Deadly Shadows\System
DO NOT include the exe name though, once done restart GL. (if you do not have a GarrettLoader ini yet, configure GL for everything but the T3 Game location and save, then GL will create one).
3) LAST DITCH SOLUTION DO NOT ALWAYS USE: Install T3 missions with GL then launch via the T3 shortcut on your desktop. HOWEVER This will mean that GL does not do any Thief 3 ini file updates according to if the FMs require them (this occurs when you click the play button), meaning that FMs may not run properly or at all (e.g. Krelleks-Labyrinth).
Simplest one is point 2.
Also I will have a new version of GL out that fixes this bug before the 9th Oct when Komags contest is released.
