Archiving games for historical records is very important. I'm happy that this happened.

It's not really about archiving the games though - it just allows you to patch single player games to bypass authentication where the authentication servers have been shut off without falling foul of the DMCA. I'm of a view that it's pretty ridiculous that you couldn't do that for games you legally owned in the first place.
