Beer
monies
chocolate
the new Wolfenstein game
a curry cookbook
a poker book
some other books
a remote control plane
a chinese folk CD
a bottle of 57% chinese spirit
a very colourful chinese jacket-type thing
a very nice and warm green wollen jumper
two blue hoodies - one of which is far too big, but my mum says I can wear it over all the other clothes I'll be wearing on the oh so very cold south coast, I asked for something red but nevermind.
a map-related board game
two mugs
Some walking boots
a new HDD, something bigger than 500GB would have been nice, but this should keep me going for a while.
a picture
a thing to wrap wires around
some bike lube
a bike light
a shirt
a robot dinosaur
and my dad says he'll take me out to buy kitchenware soon, since the hilarious schism in my student household means that we can't share anything any more.

Not much swag.
The main thing I got was to break in my brand new pair of Atomic skis during the best snow conditions the East Coast has seen in years.

The good ones:
Long underwear
A copy of Portal
Some novelty bubble lights
Cocktails in the Cantina: A CD of lounge-lizard versions of Star Wars music
The underwear will come in handy, since my bedroom gets refrigerator cold at night in the winter. Already finished playing Portal; short game. The CD is hysterical, especially their version of "Darth Vader's Theme".

I got a nice jumper, a Mock The Week book, two (2) slow cookers*, a couple of bike accessories, The A-Z Of Living Together and a new flat with my girlfriend :) we move in on 2nd Jan.
I also had the present of THEFT as someone bolt-cuttered their way through my bike chain outside a tube station and nicked it on Christmas Eve. I have another bike so I bought myself a £40 lock today.
I also gave myself the present of a, relatively, new set of golf clubs - secondhand Ping i3 3-W for £74.
[small]*mum bought us one, dad bought another[/small]
I enjoyed this but not nearly as much as World War Z.

Not a lot.
People have started buying me very practical presents as of late, I don't really have a problem with it but it just means I need to be more frivolous with myself - at least that's my justification for buying Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3 at the Christmas sales for half-price.
A soda-stream (back from the 80s!) primarily for making carbonated water.
A professional photographer taking a family portrait.
Two pairs of trousers.
Cinema vouchers.

also the worst aftershave I have ever smelt.
Beer.
Can you use beer as aftershave? This might be where you're going wrong...

A while ago I had idea for a t-shirt; not only did my brother get it printed for me, but he designed it better than I ever could have:

Indeed. That's been happening with me for a while now (hence the toolbox/tools). The last time I got an honest-to-goodness "fun" present (besides the Ball of Whacks, which is a different sort of fun) was four years ago when I got the Myst 10th Anniversary Edition.
Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. As you said, it just means I have to spend my own money on frivolities. Besides, everyone needs the practicalities.
Sorry to hear about your bike, DK. :erg:
Kaleid on 27/12/2009 at 22:51
Nothing. We all agreed on skipping the presents this year and went for an expensive dinner instead.
