I've had The xx's Basic Space on my playlist for half a year, only just now got around to listening to the whole album. It is indeed good stuff, reminds a bit of Bat for Lashes. :)
Stitch how about adding 1&2 already?

The rest of the album's a lot more at-night and sexily languorous than Natasha Khan, though. Bob Dylan was right when he said music is the silence between the notes. There's a slight amount of unease prevalent, but it's really the epitome of the night-time record.
As a side-note, I'd recommend speakers instead of headphones for this one. Feels more alive and expansive on a good set of speakers.

Ambivalence Avenue is a pretty cool album, Aja. Ta for the heads-up.
And while my love for Grizzly Bear still can't grab root much further than a few good tracks on Vekatimest, my love for "My Girls" is finally encompassing "Brother Sport", "Also Frightened" and more on Merriweather.

Yeah, the Grizzly Bear disc has plenty of standouts but on the whole it lacks a center for the less hooky songs to hold onto, I think.
Also: lol SE tag

I think it needs to be treated more as an album than just a collection of songs. Everything flows, so the less hooky songs (which does not include Southern Point, which I still like the most) serve more as interludes. Same with Embryonic; a lot of those tracks just wouldn't work without context.

I agree, except that Veckatimest has a few too many Virgo Self-Esteem Broadcasts and not enough Watching the Planets, if you will. There is no single bad song and yet a couple could probably have been cut to strengthen the experience as a whole.

LAST BUMP EVER
Added a top ten singles list, AKA hiphop's time to shine
I was going to write a little bit about each song but even I am sick of listening to me mouth off about music by this point.
Roll on 2010, new Vampire Weekend in a few days!

yeah shut the fuck up you self indulgent bastard
fake edit: just kidding, love the list - as always these threads provide the lazy music downloader in me fodder to try out on the iphone as I drive to and from work :)
I was heartened to see that I share at least 4 of your favourite singles for the year! I'm hip!

I'm surprised at the overall lack of lists here. It was a pretty good year for music, I'd say—last year (arguably an inferior one) we had nineteen lists (including those that weren't quite top tens) compared to this year's nine.
Even though I don't tend to investigate them as much, I still enjoy those posts that just kinda pop in with a quick list and no words.
