hasnt there been any good hip hop?
I suppose it depends on your tastes, but I did mention (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyKhC9Ahhrk) K'Naan. It's in my "Haven't heard the album yet" list, but if all the tracks are as solid as that one, it's a serious contender.
Also, (

How did I miss a new Living Color album? You're right, that song is fantastic - how badass is Corey Glover, right?
@Scots - but grunge IS dead and culturally irrelevant. :) I never know when you're joking dude.

I use these threads as a guide to source out new music sometimes, but hasnt there been any good hip hop or rnb albums?
Well I mentioned the new Raekwon, Doom, and J Dilla releases in my list, all are worth listening to. I haven't had a chance to completely listen to the new Blacrok release, but from what I've heard it's terrific.

I found it by accident, flipping channels and caught them playing on TV. Got it that night. I wasn't lying when I said that that song wrecks me. It's all perfect emotion without being melodramatic, and there's some real fucking bitterness in the lyrics and pain in the delivery (It's about Hurricane Katrina, FYI).
It really underscored for me that it doesn't matter how many new bands I discover and learn to love, my trifecta of favorite singers hasn't really changed in 15 years: Glover, Mike Patton, and Shawn Smith (Brad, Satchel, Pigeonhed) Though I would rank your boy Pinnick up there pretty highly as well (The first thing I thought of when I heard Behind the Sun was Summerland)

RBJ your first list is definitely the kind of thing I was looking for, I mean indie hipster-rock is all well and good, but sometimes you just want to party. As far as hip hop rnb albums, I'm aware of the mainstream stuff, was really looking for things I just wouldnt find by myself. Which people have done, checking out some of the abovementioned artists.
Ton, knaan is cool I can always rely on your tasteful picks. Yeh I forgot about mstrkrft, love that shit.

Well, Pinnick and Glover were cut from the same vocal cloth - Sly/Stevie/Jimi. Dug actually toured with them in Europe last year when Corey was doing his Broadway thing and Dug told me he felt like he totally failed to capture Corey's intensity most of the time. That's a big compliment coming from Pinnick, but those two bands form a bit of a circle jerk anyway.
After watching that video, I'm thinking I like Wimbish better than Skillings too. He seems to fit better and it's pretty cool that Grandmaster Flash's bass player is jamming with a metal band now.

I am loving RBJ's list. :) At least the half of it that I've heard, gonna have to check out the other half.

I thought The Ecstatic had some good tracks (although putting Slick Rick in only to be shown up on his own album was a bit silly), but I honestly didn't get Blueprint 3. I loved the Black Album and Jay-Z's earlier work, but I was a bit disappointed by the fact that he did the whole DOA thing, and then proceeded to use Autotune throughout the album. Whereas I found his flow previously interesting because it was loose and a bit raw (99 Problems being an obvious example), but here it seemed a bit sterile/pedestrian by comparison. That said, I really liked Empire State of Mind, and Off That.

I actually agree completely, but I've given up on the album format as far as hiphop goes. Rappers and R&B singers are almost entirely absent from my top 10 (lol spoilers), and yet their singles occupied at least half my listening this past year. Indie rock faggotry for careful listening, hiphop party jams for bumpin'
I do need to give that LMFAO disc a listen, though, as "Shots" rocks my fucking world.
Edit: also, Jay-Z hasn't had a wall-to-wall great listen since
The Blueprint, and the singles off his new one make me want to chew glass :(

Can't comment too much on the albums, as I haven't really bought any this year.
I will say that as far as radio goes, Poker Face and Boom Boom Pow have to be the most obnoxiously overplayed songs of the year. I'd hear those songs repeated as many as four times in a typical session at the gym.
