he means there isn't enough "whatever" in the movie to "take away" (from the cinema) some deeper meaning which he will remember/reflect on/will change his life.
The problem is you can read "take away from it" as "criticise it" so it sounds like he's saying "there isn't even enough content to criticise the film!" which makes it sound like an odd choice for a best of 2009.
At least, I think that's the confusion?

Yeah, you're bang on Fingernail (if your supposition of Onionbob's problem is correct). My main problem is that movie (and its central twist) doesn't leave anything lasting for me to reflect on (or "take away from it").

Well, it's a poorly-written sentence. I'm not a linguist, so I won't attempt to deconstruct the syntax in technical terms, but it's extremely unclear to me as a reader. Taking your time and breaking into more sentences would have been better. I recommend thorough proof-reading to avoid this kind of run-on confusion in future.

Oh, okay.

Not me. I say nail syntax to the yardarm and wring the evil weevils out of it as it makes my own nightmare constructions less notable in a wart on an alligator sort of way. Scroom.

yes, twas a clumsy sentence at best scots, it could have been more better.

Seems like the tags and english crits are more active in this thread than movie lists, but regardless I soldier on!
I caught The Informant! last night and it was pretty good. Not sure where it fits in my overall list due to its convoluted narrative (which is deliberate, mind you) and I'm not sure if it's rewatchable, but it was very dry and funny. Damon did a fantastic job with it. Crazy story.
Oh, I also forgot to mention:
Most Anticipated of 2010
Iron Man 2 - sequel to one of the best comic book hero movies ever
Hot Tub Time Machine - scriptwriter of Grosse Point Blank and High Fidelity in a movie with John Cusack! Sold!
Kick-Ass - real-life super-hero movie? Unbreakable tried it... you improve on it.
Inception - next movie from Nolan which looks intriguing and sci-fi-ish
Shutter Island - new Scorcese looks like solid atmospheric horror thriller set on a remote insane asylum
Cop Out - new Kevin Smith movie, buddy comedy
Machete, Predators, The Expendables - B-movies galore!!!!
We might get lucky enough to see The World's End too, the third of the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy by Pegg, Frost and Wright.
Can't Believe They're Making It
Death at a Funeral - almost instant US remake that I'm sure will make good foil of cultural differences between US and UK with regards to death... uhhh...
Karate Kid - Will Smith Jr with Jackie Chan, christ
Footloose - lol remake remake remake
Little Fockers - interminable sequel which sounds like it'll bleed any remaining comedy by killing off De Niro and hopefully suck the life out of this "franchise" before Fockers Retirement Home Adventure
Sex and the City 2 - more shitting all over any scraps of good will remaining from the overplayed TV series and bad movie

Not a chance in hell we'll see this next year. Wright's still working on Scott Pilgrim (somewhere in post right now, but I believe it's slated for a
late next year release.), and Pegg and Frost are still doing 'Paul' (probably in the same production state as Scott Pilgrim, as they were in principal photography at around the same time). And beyond the title and concept, I'm pretty sure they haven't buckled down to write the script yet.
I'm still compiling my best of the year list (2009 was kind of a shitty year, all in all), as there's some stuff I want to revisit. The Brothers Bloom, Inglourious Basterds, Moon, and District 9 are kind of all fighting each other for the top spots, though.
And The Informant! and Public Enemies make me really wish that Soderbergh and Mann would give up the digital cameras. I felt like both movies were really hindered by the picture quality (and the script, in Public Enemies's case).

Just saw Inglorious Basterds. Cartoonish characterizations in a ridiculous revenge altered history melded with a Dirty Dozen style mission that somehow still managed to be interesting. Obviously self aware of the ludicrous but plunging headlong off that cliff anyway and that oddly saves it. A little disturbing in it's gleefulness. Hey those Nazis everybody can agree should be stomped to bits and aint it fun?
I don't know. It's like a joke I get but still is only mildly funny so I'm left wondering if I missed something subtle in the batter-up scenes.
