Sometimes you just have to be excited about stuff!
I'm calling it christmas 2.0 because I had to pay for everything myself. But it was nice to receive from myself.
[sub]Or was it the bank that got it for me?[/sub]
All my upgrade parts for my computer. needed to get away from the OEM crap and get some aftermarket hardware.

Best friggen handheld I've ever used. Perfect for rock vocals and guitar. I prefer them to anything Shure has, A quiet little company that most would probably not buy from because its "budget" well its the best handheld I've used so stick it! and at $60 bucks a pop. You can't go wrong.

I could've spent more but I didn't want to, I have lots of time to get decent microphones.
This one has a lo cut and a 20dB pad.

It's very pretty. Man, totally puts mine to shame!! For a recording rig, how much RAM do you have in that beast?

I think I hate you

well I was going to recycle the ram from the gateway.. but then I found out that it wasn't even installed in dual channel. There were 4 dimms in it, but there was a 1gb and 3x 512mb. so I have little of use there for the 2nd channel of ram in my new mobo. The ram I bought was some sort of Kingston enthusiast ram, 4 gb DDR2 1066. I think I'll get a second set of 4 gb to give me 8 because I'd like to install windows 7 x64. If I stay with 32bit than 4gb is overkill because I can't even utilize all of it. but I think I'd like to go with 8gb. It'll help with all the real time processing I'll be doing in MaxMSP.
Don't hate me too much.. the bank actually paid for all of it. so I'll be hurting for it in about 3 years when I graduate and they want all the money back.
PigLick on 10/1/2010 at 11:03
solution : never graduate!

Nice. I think at some point I'll need to overhaul this rig, it's was a decent computer 3 and a half years ago when I built it, but as I've done more audio work I've bought shit in fits and starts since then. A proper audio interface would be nice, at the moment I've got an Audiophile 10-in/10-out card running through a second hand yamaha mixing console, which feeds my monitors (ESI nEar 05s).
I too had plans to build something I could take to gigs/rehearsals and record with, but I couldn't justify the price.
I was talking to a freelance engineer who specialises in classical guitar recordings, and aside from the obvious years of experience of editing and producing, there's nothing he does that you couldn't reproduce with a few thousand pounds worth of equipment; it's just a couple of great mics, an interface and a decent laptop (he runs Sequoia which I hadn't come across before, I think it's tailored for broadcast/classical recording). Of course, in that particular case the problem is that you need to find and hire a good acoustic to record in.
My uncle has spent loads over the years on bits of kit he thinks are going to revolutionise his playing, but they often end up dusty on the shelf, and the album he recently produced sounded pretty good (he was helped by an audio engineer friend) but is a complete mish-mash in terms of songwriting style, tone, frequently clichéd, occasionally uncomfortable listening.
On the other hand, there's nothing like getting a new set-up, and getting inspired just by playing around with it - "ooh, now I can do this!"
How's the band going? Recorded any more?

this has anything to do with studio gear?

I find buzz a bit limited in a sense, I tend to use adobe audition in tandem with buzz for better use of live instruments. Buzz is awesome though, seeing as its free and all.
