I'm kinda surprised to hear that there are ancient oriental adagios. Most of my Chinese friends would be, too.
I'll agree that ignorance and extremism tend to go hand in hand. Doesn't matter which part of the world it's in though.

No!! Because they are ignorant!! They are a subculture. That's why they are a point of force for the Vatican: when a man knows few things, and is in good faith, then he is also mostly opened to ever shit that everyone else could say to him. If I'm reading properly, I think what massi's saying is that a) this isn't indicative of "Africans" (whatever that might mean or signify) but more that there are always populations within any group who are ignorant for whatever reasons -- Ignorant ignorant, not stupid, you understand, but what we would consider uneducated (we can get into the obvious argument later on because yes, they aren't uneducated but perhaps differently and more relevantly (and more minimally) educated, but we're talking about shit like demons and acid and curing AIDS by raping infants here) -- and that they are superstitious and easy prey for the Wrong Kind of Missionaries, just as less-sophisticated (yes, yes) peoples have always been ever since whitey learned about boats and the printing press
and b) that the problem is merely a symptom of a larger pattern of invasion, corruption, and perversion on the part of unscrupulous, unsupervised, unaccountable, and irresponsible group of Christian Evangelicals / Missionaries / Whatever
Also the oriental adagio is awesome and I will memorise it because it's true and I always forget to remember it. A falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest. Thanks for that one.

I agree with this.
Religion just needs to die, mankind won't progress while Religion is still about.
To stay on topic, Africa is generally a very violent and savage place( apart from all the civil wars), there' still lots of people that are stuck in the old traditions(kind of reminds me of some conservative Middle Eastern countries where stoning is perfectly legal).
It's quite disgusting and abhorrent really. On another note, I saw a documentary a while back on how some witch doctors and medicine men use body parts (bones etc.) of albinos for medicine which they think bring luck among other things. Now that's just sick and repuslive.
