Kind of liked it, but it's really overrated at the same time, i'd give it 3/5. It had some kind of TV Drama serie feel to it, for some reason the movie didnt feel very "complete" to me. When it was over i couldnt stop thinking how much better it would've worked as a tv serie. The ending was not very satisfying and very predictable, the characters were interesting but you wanted to get to know them more. Cant say i cared much for the protagonist though, not very charismatic and a bit boring imo.

You mean the main character seemed to be just an average schmuck that was put in an extra-ordinary situation, just as the character was intended to be?

No not that, i never felt anything for the main character and that's really important imo, didnt care if he lived or died. I guess its my biggest problem with the movie and why i think it would've worked better as a tv serie. You connect better with the characters in series since you have (almost) unlimited time to connect to them. I thought the world itself and the characters deserved more time because it definitely had a quality to it.

Spoiler: "series" is both the singular and plural in English.

Heres a quick question: Does this film not appear as a clumsy, heavy-handed exercise in sixth-form speculative fiction if you're not english? I mean, does the exotic-ness make up for it or something? It had it's moments
the mad max bit where clives girly gets shot was pretty well executed, I think the matter-of-fact docudrama style really came together there
but I felt embarassed watching most of this film. It was like an episode of If... written by first-year student marxists whos idea of a subtle political projection is, well, is to have the government locking up asylum seekers in cages next to tube stations.
NB I havent seen the end yet, so maybe I should shut up?

You might be right about some aspects. If you're a Londoner it might seem cheesier etc. Still, isn't the second half of Threads just as bad then? They don't really go into enourmous amounts of imaginative detail theorising about why ruthless militarism must set in after large scale disaster. It's just generally assumed that it will, thanks to experience with authority and civil life over the centuries. Threads is just better for showing the progression, to some, I suppose. In that sense Children of Men is trading on the favourite trope of distopian fiction that every highschool sci-fi writer can come up with, but in this case it's all about the 'why'. And its offering a quite unique answer and, probably more importantly, telling it in qite a unique cinematic way.

Fuck all, Muzman. Do you always need to be so goddamn...smart all the time? I mean, really, show some decorum man. :weird:
