Chernobylite just came out.
This game has a very heavy STALKER vibe. Looks like it focuses a bit more on the horror aspects of the Exclusion Zone, with a little less emphasis on action.
I haven't looked into it in too much detail yet, but it definitely looks like the kind of game TTLG would be interested in.

The critique of the trailer, is that the female voice that is enacted demonstrates an insincere and disconnected approach...which generates unbelievability.

To whoever supplies the training data for the Vae AI's language algorithm: you may want to either use more training data or use better training data. Or both.

I'm surprised they use the term "Stalker" so openly in their trailer. I would think GSC would have something to say about that.
Starker on 4/8/2021 at 15:02
Why? Because they stole it from the Strugatsky brothers?
Renault on 4/8/2021 at 15:38
I thought there was some type of lawsuit years ago, because GSC had the rights to the term Stalker for video game usage. I believe it spawned from all the ex-Stalker devs starting games of their own after GSC closed down.
Starker on 4/8/2021 at 15:42
To the best of my knowledge, GSC never licensed the rights from the Strugatsky estate. GSC has a number of trademarks on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R brand, including comic books and clothing, but not videogames, though of course they have a claim on it just from having made a game of that name.
You can read some of the sordid details here, when a lawyer looked into the mess some years ago: (

So (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobylite) chernobylite is an actual substance formed inside the Chernobyl reactor. But for god-only-knows-why reason, this game stylizes its title as "ChernobyLite", which makes it seem like it's delivering some kind of low-calorie, watered-down, budget version of Chernobyl.

I came to the same conclusion - like Diet Chernobyl. It's a very strange font/logo choice if that isn't the intention.
But then the trailer also suggests that a marketing department has been nowhere near this game.

At first I assumed the title was suggesting the game would be like Shadow of Chernobyl, but pared down in scale. But based on what I read, it's more like a Fallout game than the STALKER series. The developers went through some effort to recreate the zone, so the title could be a literal description of the setting.
The graphics look uncommonly good for a small independent team. Even though they didn't have to worry about faces, it's hard to go for a photo-realistic look.
I'm not sure about managing a squad though. I'd rather go it alone in this type of game setting. Otherwise, I like it.
