So it seems that the recent (
http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/13/south.park.hayes.reut/) hullabaloo about Chef quitting South Park due to its mockey of religion (haha what) may or may not have been his own doing.
When I read yesterday that Isaac Hayes was a scientologist and that finally, South Park had gotten around to giving even the obscurer religions a stab, that hypocrisy had perhaps just gotten the better of him - as it has so many others.
However there is now a claim emerging that (
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,188463,00.html) a scientologist put in the resignation on Chef's behalf (with or without consent is unknown, as is the validity of this claim) since he was put out by a stroke in mid-January.
Funnily enough, this was one of the few reasons when I first heard about Hayes quitting the show that I had come up with - perhaps he'd had a run-in with the man upstairs and was getting a bit uncomfortable with mocking God. But then I realised that he's a Scientologist and believes this sort of crazy shit:

OT III also deals with Incident I, set four quadrillion years ago (roughly 300,000 times longer than current scientific consensus holds the age of the universe to be). In Incident I, the unsuspecting thetan was subjected to a loud snapping noise followed by a flood of luminescence, then saw a chariot followed by a trumpeting cherub. After a loud set of snaps, the thetan was overwhelmed by darkness. This is described as the implant offering the gateway to this universe, meaning that these traumatic memories are what separates thetans from their static (natural, godlike) state.
It's like Revelations on a bad acid trip.
Anyway, I just thought this was a bit of simultaneous lols and controversy! Considering as Cruise apparently had a hand in getting the South Park episode (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSj9gc36Bw8&search=south%20park%20scientology) "Trapped in the Closet" banned, I thought it might be a topic of conversation that really just embraces the sort of pseudoscience that has been driving Monkeysee mad recently.

It's a legit religion, dude. Don't be hatin'. :}
Wait, that might not have been obvious enough. Anyway, I don't know how Cruise was able to "have a hand" in the kind of a decision to ban a show. Is he some sort of a censoring board member?
Also, I'm starting to like youtube.

That makes more sense than Hayes quitting - it seemed so strange to me that he, of all people, would quit the show. Hell, he had some of the most offensive lines on it!

Listen, people can pull the whole LOL THE BIBLE IS JUST MADE UP TOO but the fact that the bible was written by a whole collection of people who supposedly either shared experiences or experienced similar events is a completely different kettle of fish from (what reads quite like) a down-and-out, batshit insane science-fiction writer who created a religion so that he could live in tax-free exile on a boat attended to by his minions.

Wait, I'm confused. You're not thinking I was serious, right? Scientology is, um, not my thing. Also, I know that Cruise is an opinionated SOB, but I wasn't sure how he would actually be able to yank the show off air. I didn't mean to ask the question rhetorically.
Scots Taffer on 21/3/2006 at 03:04
No, I suspected you were being facetious but I was just covering that angle before someone else pulled that card. Anyway, the Cruise having a hand in getting the show pulled is merely hearsay and conjecture.

I've heard he stated he wouldn't do any publicity for MI:3 when it came out if they didn't pull it, and Comedy Central is owned by the company that's putting that out, which puts him a position to exert alot of influence, since I bet MI:3 has alot of money riding on it...more than people seeing a back-episode of South Park does, at least...
Aja on 21/3/2006 at 04:44
So wait - if the South Park episode stays on the air then Cruise refuses to promote his movie?
Sounds like win-win to me.

Scientology may be full of shit, but a lot of their secret auditing documents are entertaining to read. Too bad most of them have been yanked off the net for legal reasons.

What, only recently?
