I'm looking for a new card for my old comp. It's an Athlon 2.3 dual core, 3 gigs of DDR2, 400watt psu, and Vista 32 bit. My last decent card was a Gforce 8600GT and when that went, I went down to a 9400GT. That went about a month ago so have been using the onboard graphics and playing a bunch of Thief FM's which isn't a bad thing by any means. However Xmas coming soon so my wife and daughter have offered to get me something new.
Problem is they can only afford 50 or 60 bucks. It's a Compaq computer so the tower is fairly small so I believe I would need something that can fit in one slot.
What I'm wondering is if there's anything in that kind of price range that would be at least as good as the 8600GT or do I need to spend more?
Appreciate any replies.

you might actually need a low profile card - can you be more specific with what kind of compaq pc you have?

Thanks for the responses.
The Compaq is a SR5710F model w/ a pretty standard sized tower for these types of computers. I was looking at the 9800GT however my daughter's boyfriend told me my CPU couldn't handle it. The price sure is right. Keep in mind I'm not a graphics whore. I was able to run both DEHR and Assassins Creed 2 to with the really crappy 9400GT both in 800X600 so the way a game looks doesn't' bother me.
Again thanks for the help.

yeah, it's standard size. in that case, the previous recommendations are valid - personally, I would go for the latest gen of graphics cards when buying new. but the 9800gt will do the job as well, even though it's old.
just make sure you have the 6pin power connector on your psu, the 9800 requires external power. seems like the zotac card does not need it. must be one of those green edition models or something.

don't worry about that, he was trying to say that the card will not be running at it's full potential, but that's not an issue.

Again, thanks for the help. I went with an XFX Radeon 6570 for 55 bucks, mostly because I knew it would fit in my case, (plus a 15.00 rebate and free game) and would be an easy install. I know it's a low end card however it seems like it's going to be able to do what I'm looking for, which is pretty much basic gaming.
