I don't know why most of the people here think they know chavs, but they don't.

I got attacked last year on the way back from a stag night. Needless to say, I was fairly drunk and we came across a group of chavs who I think wanted a light. Walking swiftly on one of them knocked me to the ground while a few more kicked me. My two mates shouted at them and they stopped for long enough for me to get up and run off. We realised we were outnumbered about 5 to 1 so scarpered - phoning the police as we were running. The police basically got arsey because we wanted their help like, immediately even though we'd outrun the bastards. We left contact details but the police never got back to us, and annoyingly, we never followed it up because
a) we were drunk
b) we never really saw their faces because PREDICTABLY they were wearing hoodies
c) no terrible damage was done (though they chipped the top off one of my canines)
I think the bit that annoyed me most about this though was that having done this route a whole stack of times both sober and drunk and with various levels of company, this ONE TIME we come across a group of dodgy looking people they attack. I was under the impression most chavs were in bed by 3.30am because I certainly never see any out after about midnight. OH WELL.
So yeah, I sympathise with your incident. Fucking cunts, the lot of them.

Sooo, any young British males not got an account of being attacked? My own at least is pretty minor compared to what I've read here, but still... what the hell is so broken with our culture?
I mean, lots of other 1st-world countries have poor deprived types, right? So do they have the same yob-related problems? Or are we just special? If so what has caused this phenomena?

What gets into them all? We studied the problem, we've been studying it for damn well near a century, yes. But we get no further with all our studies. They've got a good home here, good loving parents, they've got not too bad of a brain.
Is it some devil that crawls inside of them?

It's probably just a problem of self-worth. If people dont consider themselves valued for any particular aspect of themselves, then an obvious way to feel like they are a significant person is to enforce their will physically on others by lamping them with a snooker cue.

I suppose one of the benefits of a small-town life is that I've never had to put up with this kind of bullshit. Is this "chav" thing really as prevalent as you guys are making it seem? Given the number of people in this forum alone who've suffered attacks at the hands of these guys, we're looking at either one hell of a statistical anomaly, or a far worse problem than I'd have guessed.

It is a big problem though, and it's getting worse.
I've never been attacked by chavs but that's likely because I don't end up in places drunk where chavs may attack. A bunch of us were chased once (a whole back now) and Noid is right, these people were scum. We ran as fast as we could for a good 5 minutes (sprinting, none of us could walk properly the next day) and the whole time these guys chasing us were shouting and not losing ground. Now at the time I wasn't at peak fitness but I was no slouch and I was sprinting so these guys must've been on something to keep up whilst shouting. They threw a bottle at me which missed and smashed on the ground in front of me. The reason I say they are scum, and I don't use that word lightly, is they were surely out to cause some serious damage. And for what?
The laws in this country are all messed up though. Life for murder = 15yrs = out in 7 years. Ridiculous.
