Changing the key-command in SS1... any tricks? - by Arravis

Is there anyway to change the keys around in the original System Shock (I'm playing the Portable v0.6 one)? This is my first time playing the game, and I'm enjoying it, but the key commands are driving me crazy. Too spoiled on WASD it seems. I tried a program to echange keys, but all it ended up doing was disabling the keys in-game. Anyway, I was just curious if this is something anyone had dealt with before or knows of a solution. Thanks guys!

I'm a spoiled WASDer myself, but I just got used to the SS1 controls.
Pretty quickly, as a matter of fact. :)

Buy one of those customizable keyboards. Don't know what it's called, but it was a pad with a dozen or so keys that could be removed and placed anywhere on the board. USB and config. program included to map the keys. I thought about buying it for Ultima Underworld (left hander here, arrow keys not supported!), but it was pricey.

SS1's controls. . . and Ultima Underworld I & II's Coincidentally, were awesome. . . just give 'em a little time. . . stop trying to play the game like it's Doom.

i agree. you do get used to it. and then you have trouble getting re-used to WASD.

I'd have to disagree. I got used to the SS1 controls after a little while, but it wasn't awkward at all coming back to WASD. Then again, I could be a unique case.
