I got the error about 30 seconds prior to me posting about it. I also got another error at 7:30AM EST today.

Well fuck... back to the drawing board!

The people getting 404s and the people getting CGI errors could be different facets of the same problem (er, the errors, not the people). I'm no systems admin but getting a 404/CGI error on a page, and then refreshing and getting the page properly, sounds to me like the server is overloaded in some respect - e.g. processing too many requests at once.
Also, the fact that it's calling them CGI errors instead of PHP is probably just a red herring. CGI means Common Gateway Interface, and really refers to the act of passing execution of a resource request to another application, rather than identifying the application that's doing the execution (such as Perl, ASP or PHP).

CGI Timeout
The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.

Too geeky for me. Thought maybe you might find such cryptic stuff insightful/helpful. If not, I'll stop keeping score.

Just thought I'd mention that I get them from time to time. Had one just now in fact. They seem to pop up randomly every month or so...
It's all part of the mystery of the intarnet :o

Dunno if it makes any difference, but both the 404s and CGI errors for me are fixed by refreshing. Hope that helps!

Yes, this always helps. But, as MsLedd's frusturation shows, these errors shouldn't be showing at all.
Good luck MsLedd, I bet you'll find the error soon. The forum upgrade might even help, who knows.

I just have to add... Getting the cgi error is, for me, not a big problem at all.
