So I'm showing a friend of mine a piece of music I wrote and 3/4 of the way through, his cell phone rings and he answers it and continues to talk over my composition. Is this just the cell phone age of behaviour or was that rude?
It wasn't an emergency just a friend calling him.Or was I rude not to stop my music?

Well when we're in the car or at home if someone gets a call we lower the volume/pause the music/movie etc. But if you were -playing- something for him then iono it's a bit of a judgement call I guess. On the one hand you could have paused for him to take his call, on the other hand he could have silenced his phone and let you finish.

No, it's rude. As far as I know, every cell phone has voice mail, so if you're in the middle of something or in a place where it's not appropiate, you shouldn't answer it.

No, it's incredibly rude to do so. I know I'm guilty of answering when I'm with other people, but at least I apologise. If you were playing music specifically for him, he should've killed the call and let it go to voicemail.

I think this an issue which needs addressing. It's like the person answering the call values the conversation on the other end of the phone more important than talking to you. The process should at least go something like this:
"My phone appears to be ringing, do you mind if I see who it is?"
once granted, the person may glance at their phone to see who it is
"I'm sorry, I need to take this call, I've been trying to get hold of Ricky all day about my broken Carburettor. I won't be a minute..."
or
"Oh, its only Bill, I'll call him later." *click*
I think when a phone rings it should be attended to politely as, unlike someone standing by you who might start talking over you at someone, they are unaware of the situation. If it's important they can always ring again, if I reject a call then phone rings again I take it on the off-chance its important.
Theres a good trick when you're out on a date, get one of your mates to call you so you can take out your phone and tell him you're doing something important. Or just reject the call to let her know you mean business.

Mine doesn't.

How the hell do you not have voice mail? Every cellular carrier in existence offers the service for free.

Until you have encountered a besuited man squeezing out the final stages of a business deal, whilst he concurrently shakes the final droplets of excess wastage from his public porceline pistol, you have not stared directly into the abyss of social collapse my friends.

I don't know, back in the day the first call my friend made when he got his cell phone was to me whilst he was...'indisposed'.
"Guess where I'm **grunt**sploosh* calling from!"
