Black cell phones are king-sized confirm/deny.

Some of my best friends know people with black cell phones.

Great idea to be able to block signals to certain locations. Without exception at every District council meeting I have been in one of the councillors mobiles goes off. It's bad enough trying to concentrate on obscure Cornish by-laws and planning decisions but to also contend with mobile ring tones is beyond the call of duty.

Medlar, maybe they should consider doing what Liverpool city council did in its meetings, and start fining people if their mobile goes off. My mother has been caught with a £5 fine on at least one occasion... she soon learnt to keep her mobile on silent ;).

I think we're long past fining for ringing phones when people actually answer theirs and start chatting away during a cinema performance.
I guess one way to avoid this is cranking up the volume, as I've experienced in Manchester the other day. On the other hand, if it hadn't been an independend British film without a budget for sound effects, I would have had to leave the theater. The ads and trailers alone were enough to seriously impair my hearing for the rest of the night.

If you're talking about the Cornerhouse, I fucking hear you.
Or I would if I wasn't DEAF.

No it isn't. Some of the stuff being blocked could be far more important than the movie or lecture or council meeting. If a friend or relative is dying, a blocked cellphone call might mean you miss your last chance to speak to them.

That's kind of an asinine example but if a medical or law enforcement professional is on call then I could see why this would be a liability.
