I have Windows 7 x64 and an X-Fi Platinum. I'm trying to play some Age of Empires Gold, but I can't change the music volume from within the game - the Music volume slider does nothing, except turn the music off when it's turned all the way down. The Sound volume slider does affect the music volume, but obviously it also affects all other sounds so if I want to hear those, the music gets too loud to be comfortable.
Since the game uses Redbook (CD) audio for the music, I wanted to change the volume in Windows. But I just can't find any way to actually do it. The CD Volume slider is missing in both the Creative Console and in the Windows sound options.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Since Vista, Windows sound has taken a turn to the WTF? region for old skool users. Did you look in the "Volume Mixer?" Right click on your sound icon down on the task bar while in your game. I know, you may have to ALT TAB out of your game to get to desktop. So anyway, right click on volume icon on task bar. "OPEN VOLUME MIXER." There should be several tasks in that Window for Playback devices that are currently running sound. One of them should be your game, so drag the slider all the way up to the top to hear your game.
I'm hoping this is what you're after. I've had a devil of a time setting up a microphone since the last Creative X-FI update. I set it up months ago, and then this weekend, BAM! New Creative update totally jocked all my settings.

Yeah, I tried that but it only shows one slider for the game so it controls all sounds, just like the in-game "Sound volume" slider.
