Yet they ALWAYS FORGET THE ASIANS
Asians are only allowed in Hollywood movies when they are kung fu kicking stuff and even then, they require a handler who is usually black.
Sometimes they get to play gay men too.
You forgot the old, wizened handler for the main character who's learning kung fu. :D

Yeah movie clichés can be fun when you're not seeing them. Anyway, a System Shock movie would need a whole new story. For one thing you can't scare a kid with Polito's identity anymore. But the general plot device could still work. Then no one needs to see a movie that is based on a game that is in turn based on 3-4 well known movies and books. So no egg hunting and no parasite from outer space will work. Even though the Many as a concept of community vs. SHODAN as a concept of individuality would still work. Then Goggles is no movie material, but the intertwined relationships among the crew members may do. It does ring of your typical catastrophe movie still. Like a Titanic in space.

That's why presentation and direction are paramount for the film to be anything other than just another sci-fi/horror/disaster film. I still think a "Memento"-like approach could probably work quite well, especially since it's essentially how the SS2 game story is arranged anyway if you think about it.
I agree that some of the more Alien-esque things, such as the eggs, should probably be removed, but I still think the parasitic and hive-mind nature of The Many is still unique enough and interesting enough to warrant inclusion. The inclusion of Goggles or not is kind of irrelevant in my opinion. He has absolutely NO character to speak of, so he has to built from the ground up anyway.

Mix EVENT HORIZON, ALIEN, VIRUS, 2001 together and you got something close to what SYSTEM SHOCK would be like.

Mr. T as SHODAN.
'Look at'chou, fool!'

I saw that on TV. Awesome.

Hah, somehow I knew exactly what that was before I even clicked on it.
Musta been my asian-sense tingling.
I would hope that a SS2 movie would have a lot in common with one of my favorite monster flicks, The Thing. Paranoia and dissension oh my!
