The only real way to do it would be to leave Goggles with a few major plot scenes so we can see him talk to Polito, Shodan, Many and see how he rescues the ship. Mix in flash back sequences to add the main character logs, but elongate them so we see the whole "story" of what happened and who the characters were / are. Almost approach it like 2 films. One showing what happened when goggles was out and one showing what goggles did. If you add in some 2 way conversations between goggles / SHODAN / Many / Survivors and some cuts to Tommy Rebekkas story.
You would just need one heck of a writer / director
MEMENTO!!
anybody else see what I see here?
I always thought that a sci fi film for ss1 would work pretty good. the battle for citadel station. It would make a great thriller. The movie would start with the hacker in the intro but you wouldn't have the 6 month gap inbetween. Make it shorter for the films sake and have the hacker wake up before everyone dies. It could be done.
If you tried to do the same thing with SS2 i think the exposition might be just a little bit too.. Species 2... *shudders*
And I think Kate Mulgrew would be perfect for Politio. Sigourney Weaver might be good for the movie, but she'd never do it. She hates how type cast she's become because of Alien.
I always liked Karl Urban for a protagonist.
You could even have Goggles be unable to speak because of the shock of the surgery, or turn him kind of autistic until he more fully "wakes up" at some point in the film.

I like that idea, as it also helps to give a reason for the title other than it being the name the games were under. Also helps in giving reason behind a few of polito's early logs.

Forget Doom. I'm thinking Lotr or Pathfinder (eh.. pathfinder sucked) Or Bourne Supremacy, he wasn't a protagonist but he is a good actor for the part.
He was good in Riddick

Good 'fun' movie. Don't try thinking too hard about the setting mechancis and you'll probably get a kick out of the deal. Try and peel it apart and you will leave bitter and sulkey.

I always thought you could do a pretty good Alien-style Sci Fi film without the Goggles character in it at all. Start at the beginning with the transmission from Tau Ceti and play through the whole Many invasion, you'd be able to get plenty of character interaction from how everyone deals with the problems.
A film would only be any good if you set it entirely in the world of SSII, but completely re-worked the story around the characters in it, rather than the lone figure of our bespectacled hero. You could still get plenty of the atmosphere of isolation the game has, such as when characters inevetably go off one-by-one:
"Hey, I'll just head down to cargo bay A by myself, the lights are out but I wont need a weapon, just this flashlight will do..."
:joke:
As for director you'd have to have David Cronenberg, all the mutating bodies and frankenstein science gone wrong - he'd be perfect.

Ooooh! Cronenberg is a fantastic choice!

OMGWTFBBQ This reminds me of a dream I had not too long ago. It was the System Shock 1 movie. I don't remember much, but what I do remember is some cut scenes were of the survivors doing what they can, watching you on the security cameras, battling it out with monsters, then sending you emails. Actually, it was pretty entertaining, considering I was watching a dream movie. One group tried to get away from a battle in one of the ducts and a mutant was waiting, killed the pack. Funny thou, it didn't really show the main character other than sec cameras, but the film was action paced. So, as a film idea, we can show the scenes of the survivors, like, several chapters can be on each person, what they did to help the fight, but then the downfall. I wish I remember more of the dream, I remember thinking "When the movie is over, I am SOO stealing this DVD..."
*I know SS2, but still, SS1 would be cool too
