uncadonego that is friggin' righteous. Whereabouts were you all fishing? That looks like a blast.
I took my three year old daughter on her first fishing "trip" yesterday to a local little hole for about an hour. We caught a three inch perch, a seven inch perch, and about a fourteen inch catfish, all with her little Dora Zebco. I also showed her how to man up by eating them all raw on the spot. Well okay I need some kind of fishing tale there... nah we released them all, of course.
Question: uncadonego, where did you learn to clean fish? And how do you all dispatch them once in the boat? I usually see them kept in a tank.

We were in Lake Erie on the Ontario side, between Wheatley and Erieau, in about 60 ft. of water. Once we catch them we put them in the cooler you see in the pic, with some water and frozen jugs of water for giant ice cubes.
I learned how to clean fish from a book when I was a kid. Back in 'em days we didn't have no innernett, and by gum we liked it! These days if you want to learn how to clean fish there are a bazillion YouTube videos to watch how it's done, even species specific.
That's cool that you took your daughter fishing. Did you keep the bigger perch or the catfish? Catfish are yummy, even small bullheads. Just one or two is enough for lunch for one person.
When my kids were very little, I raised rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and pigs. We had laying hens too. They knew where meat comes from. Nowadays I only eat fish, eggs, and dairy from animals. My one daughter only eats eggs and dairy from animals, the other daughter, the son, and wife eat meat, so I don't think raising animals around them swayed them either way.

Yea! My buddy ended up getting the trophy for biggest salmon in the Big Boyz Fishing Derby with the 6.25kg (13.78 lbs) King Salmon he caught on Saturday! It was a gorgeous fish. I had the silver bass he caught for supper on Saturday night. Delicious!

Yeah, it's getting pretty elaborate. If the mods would like me to transfer this to my own page, just let me know. It has over 2100 views though, so some people might be enjoying the thread right here.
Those views might just have a little something to do with the fact that you've been bumping this thread for the last two months.

Took my girlfriend to the river. She is still learning how to fish, and has yet to actually land one. That said, I caught a 12" smallmouth, a 10" largemouth (!), and a couple panfish within an hour. This is with me only getting about 15 minutes of pole time, as she was fishing for the most part (she really needs to work on setting the hook, a lot of nibbles, but she can't snag 'em :()
