Or, (
http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/04/scifiannouncesigalacticais.shtml) Battlestar Galactica's spin-off.
Quote:
Set more than 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica takes place on the capital world of the Twelve Colonies. There humankind thrives, living in a peaceful society with the benefits of high technology. But the development of an advanced, robotic, artificial life form is about to change everything.

Another prequel? It does have the potential to be a success. I hope it doesn't turn into a generic soap opera, conveniently set in the BSG universe, but I have full confidence in the team behind it.
It will also have a lot of OMGSEKS, obviously. ;)

Fuckin' sweet.
But why does it have to involve the Adamas? What's the point? Does every science fiction "epic" have to revolve around struggles between just a few families?
Chimpy Chompy on 27/4/2006 at 18:16
As long as it doesn't take resources (and Ron D Moore's time) away from BSG itself, I'm interested in the idea.

We all know that the best way to ensure continued high standards of writing and production is to divert resources to a cheezy-sounding spinoff that nobody wanted in the first place.
So obviously, you know, I'm all for this.

Basically, yes. People (the audience) want to connect to people, to characters, so you can't have it just be some overarching story of the whole society, you have to focus in on a individuals and families.

As has been already mentioned this sounds like a really bad idea. I enjoyed season 2 (haven't seen the last six episodes though) over season 1 but this sounds like the battlestar galactica remake is getting ready to jump the shark.

Probably has to do with Adama being an established war hero and über-Viper pilot.
Not that it makes a
good reason, that is. I'm with Raven here. Too much hype around Galactica could do more harm than good, to me it sounds like they're wanting to suck everything out of this universe while they still can... Bad move.
Wait and see though, like everything...

Remember that Stargate Atlantis had been in development for a long time, before it finally started (more than 2 years?). So even if Caprica gets greenlighted, it won't be before season 5 of BSG that it hits the screen.
So let's give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they take the best of BSG and expand on it, instead of turning the spin-off into Dallas In Space.
After all, SGA and SG1 are indeed coexisting quite nicely, aren't they?
rachel on 27/4/2006 at 21:19
Sure, truth is, if it's greenlighted I'll probably just ramble around like crazy until I can see some of it... ;)
I can't say about Stargate though, I don't follow this show...
[edit] My personal wish if this series ever sees the light of day is to see the launch of the Battlestar Galactica. :) Perhaps even as a season/series finale or something, that could be great.
