The single most annoying aspect of playing a thief in Arx is that you can't sneak with your weapon out. This makes backstabbing a tedious and difficult operation. You have to sneak behind your enemy, switch to weapon mode, then ready your swing, and finally backstab. All that delay gives your prey ample time to turn around and see you. Frankly, I'm considering starting over and trying to play a mage or a fighter, as that's what the game seems to be designed to play as.
Please, if possible, add sneaking with a weapon to the next patch!

having your weapon drawn doesn't stops you from sneaking actually, try to go into a dark corner until the stealth icon appears, then draw your weapon to see if your icon stays on...

The issue here, Raf, is that (when wielding a weapon) the volume of your steps is unaffected by holding down the 'stealth' key.

The post about the next patch says there will be a toggle for sneak mode. I really hope this will solve this problem. Being a thief is so fun... and yet so frustrating at the same time.

you also can't lean with a weapon drawn and/or while crouched, which seems odd to me.

What about CASTING with weapon drawn ???!
It's frequent that, during a fight, I want to cast some "burning" ("incandescence" in French) on my opponent but I forget to remove my weapon and the spell is lost.
** EDIT **
MY MISTAKE !!!
It is indeed possible to cast while the weapon is drawn.
I don't know why I thought it didn't work, but I've just tried again and it worked, so please forget this post.
