I have been playing 1st person shooters since Doom2. I have, with the exception of this game, have been able to see my ammo count on the screen. Can someone please let me know if I have to keep count or am I missing something?

You see it in the bottom-left icon.

It's tiny, but it's there. You can see how much ammo you have in the gun/weapon (up) and how many clips you have left (down).
If it's in red (and not green), it's your last clip.

I admit, the ammo counter is a LOT smaller than it is in Doom 2...:erm:

Yes, ammo is displayed in the bottom left hand corner.
Also, if you want a more comprehensive view of your ammunition supply, open the inventory and look to the right of the screen - there are two buttons, labelled Keys and Ammo. Click the Ammo button to see a list of all the different ammo types you posses and the amounts you have, as well as (optionally) an explanation of what each ammo type is and does.
Of course, the above is for the PC version. I'm not sure how it works if you're playing the PS2 version.

Optionally?
To my knowledge it's always been there, you just have to click to read the file...

There is a small checkbox "Display ammo description" around there somewhere.

That's what I was referring to, yes.

What about credits? Can you see how many credits you have anywhere? I just noticed this the last time I played DX.

They're on the Inventory screen, top right if I remember correctly.
