The game ran with no problems at all on my old 9800 pro. But a year later I have a craving for system shock and can't get the thing to run!
I've never had any problems running it on XP. It installs fine, the movies run fine but when it tries to load a level it gets 90% done then crashes to desktop with no further info.
I've tired using a downright HISTORICAL driver for my Geforce 7800gt but still no go.

It works fine with my 7900 GTX, I'm using 84.21 Forceware.
But you don't get any error? Have you tried any of the common tips like typing safe_texture_manager into cam.cfg?

Wow that totally did the trick. Thanks man.
I was seconds away from piecing together a working spare parts machine for the sole purpose of playing this game again.

I suggesting piecing together the spare machine anyway if you've got the parts laying about since...well...always good to have a working backup.
Or maybe you could donate it to somebody that lives nearby. *shrug* Glad you got your shock problem fixed.

Having an older PC is always good if you feel like playing some of the old favorites. :)
Especially when Vista comes out, you'd want to have an older PC to be able to play old favorites like Doom 3 or HalfLife 2. :p
