Hey im having trouble reading books and scrolls in thief II, when i click to read/use it flashes to the page, then after a second or less it goes straight back to the game.
My only solution is to read a book/scroll word by word which not good if i end up with a book/scroll that has more than one page, like the excellent Rocksbourg FM's that i've started playing. I've tried TDP and some other FM's(TMA FM) and they have the same problem.
I am playing Thief II on a low-end Vista dell laptop, i dont have a desktop and prefer laptops. My spec; single core AMD cpu 2.0g, ati radeon xpress series 8.501.0.0 drivers with catalyst 8.6. The game plays at high settings 1024 x 768 with AA and AF with high FPS so i doubt its the laptop.
If anyone has any comments on this or a solution to it please reply, thank you.
Oh i never did get the cutscenes/briefings to play ingame, tried all the solutions given in the FAQ to no effect, however i can watch them in WMP, DivX and Winamp, sadly i cant watch them in VLC, is this related to the books and scrolls? I doubt it but im just curious.

Pressing or holding any key (e.g. run) while the book is open will close it in Thief 2.
Maybe one of your laptop's utility programs is causing continuous keypresses of some kind?

Oddly enough it was divx, cant see any reason why but it was repeatably pressing the default "put away weapon" button, odd that it only effected the books/scrolls and not the core gameplay... :weird:
