Ah ha! You probably have K-lite (or similar) codec packs installed?
Somewhere in the start menu, there should be a link for ffdshow decoder settings. You need to open that up and add 'thief2.exe' to the list of excluded applications. Should be golden after that.

Couldn't find it in the Start menu but I found the main ffdshow folder. How do I add Thief 2 to the list of excluded applications?

Honestly I don't know because I haven't had ffdshow installed for quite some time now. Somewhere in the configuration app is an exclusion list... if you can find it add Thief2.exe to it. Good luck... :thumb:
EDIT: Do this (different game, but same procedure...): (

Awesome. I installed a new version of ffdshow, followed these instructions and the game is working perfectly so far. Thanks a lot guys.
One last thing. can anyone tell me where you can see fog for the first time, just to make sure that it displays correctly on my computer?

Glad you got it up and running. Enjoy.

Fog first appears for the first few seconds in "Life of the Party". You'll have to have a bit of luck for it to work at all... here is what we've found:
nVidia cards: no fog
ATI cards: fog on Radeon HD 3xxx and 4xxx cards, until you first look at a readable, no fog after
Intel cards: ???
Good luck with it though ;)
