Hello,
I played through SS2 on my current vista machine a few years back with no issues(besides the dual core thing). A few days ago I decided it was time to give it another go. Main menu works fine, but much to my dismay when I try to start a new game the screen goes black and the game crashes to desktop.
After a few minutes of searching for solutions I came about the ddfix thread on this site. Ive tried installing the fix using the GUI and manually but the game still crashes to desktop when I try to start a new game(this was on the 182.50 drivers). Since then Ive tried the 190.38 drivers but the same problem still occurs. I have even rolled back to pre-169 drivers(163.75) and get the same black screen crash to desktop.
One thing Ive noticed is that if I try running the game in compatibility mode for win 95/98 I get an error saying that direct x 6 is not installed(this only happens when ddfix is applied). Someone had a similar problem in that massive ddfix thread but it had to do with the ddfix files not being in the game directory.
Is this a driver issue? Does ddfix still work on 190.38 drivers? Or is this some other issue all together?

Windows Vista Home Premium(SP 1)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
EVGA 8800 GTX (190.38 drivers)
EDIT: Well I figured out what the problem was. The solution was in the XP/2000 thread. All I had to do was rename LGVID.ax and now it works like a charm with ddfix. All that trouble and Ill I had to do was rename one file. Oh well at least I can ply now.
