I dug my old Thief II disks out of the garage. However, the install doesn't work. Windows finally came up with a compatibility checker and told me to try again, which I did. Nada. The install panel comes up, but when I press the install button, nothing happens.
I suppose I could fork over the $7 and grab it from Steam, but am afraid of not being able to get that version to play FMs. If I'm wrong, lemme know how to set that up.

Grab the GOG version, comes ready to play, with NewDark 1.26. It usually runs on sale at $1.
No problem at all with playing FMs, FMSel is used now, which is built-in in Thief 1.19 and up.

Steam works fine, but I highly recommend manually copying everything in the installed folder to another one somewhere else completely separately, then patching that one manually/separately, just to keep it isolated from any Steam shenanigans. They're not likely to update the game anytime soon, but from time to time Steam does decide to do something crazy like change storage formats, update something un-game-related.. just because they can. Keeping them separate will avoid any and all changes; because it's almost guaranteed to get something done to it at the worst possible time.

Looks like I'll have to get it on Steam. Windoze refuses to recognize the discs, even though they are in pristine condition.
If I added up the hours spent troubleshooting computer problems over the course of several decades, I could take a year-long vacation.
EDIT: Add another day to my "vacation time." Found the problem. The CD drive was bad. Brand-new, also. One of those super slim external units with a hard-wired 10" USB cable. Almost weighs as much as a pack of cigarettes.
Anyway, Thief II is installed and patched with T2Fix 1.27. A few more tweaks (EP2.crf, etc) and I should be good.

It's always the last thing you look for. :-)
Glad you got it sorted. I've lost about 3 sets of discs, so I have it on Steam now. I should just copy me a directory somewhere to maintain a backup. I should do a lot of things. :-)
