Don't know what's up but this is the first game I've installed since I got my new pc, and the game doesn't run at all (every other game I installed works 200%). My PC surpasses all the requirements but sadly when I click the icon to launch the game nothing happens. The cursor changes to indicate it's working but a few seconds later nothing happens. Not even the DVD disc is accessed during startup. XR_3DA.exe loads but it just sits there forever waiting.
Anyone else having trouble getting the game to run. After all what has been said about this game I really want to try it out. If it's even half as good as Deus EX, I'll be happy.
I've read Vista and Geforce 8 cards seem to cause trouble for other people (on other forums) but I'm running XP Professional, so it must be something else.

Clearly your machine is just too good to run stalker, it's afraid you'll be running it smoothly on the highest settings.
Perhaps it's a problem with running 64 bit...

Did you try turn off antivirus software if you have any installed? I had a game sitting like that waiting forever, and disabling AV software did the trick.

Well, the game miraculously started to run today. Don't ask me what I changed, maybe steo was right. The game was clearly petrified to run on my humble machine until today.
Bjossi, antivirus didn't do the trick but unloaded something called WindowBlinds (for visual themes) and lo and behold, the game ran. Thing is, the game runs now even with WindowBlinds loaded. Go figure!
