I hate to say it, but I have a new problem. (argh!) Everything works fine and I was playing and having fun. Then I tried to save, and the game crashes and the standard windows report error window comes up. I'm clueless on this one, and it would be impossible for me to play without saving! Please help!:(
I also have a few mods installed but nothing out of the ordinary, rebirth, the texture mod thing, etc.

Were you able to save before applying the mods?
Also, try create a folder called 'save_0' inside the main SS2 install folder and then try to save into the first slot in-game. If that will work, it could be that the main SS2 folder is read-only so the game can't create the folder itself, but dunno otherwise.

I didn't try saving I just played it before I installed them. I will attempt to restore everything now. What a job this turned out to be! BTW, it does create a folder save_0 or whatever it was, but nothing goes inside.

You are right, it is under read only, but when I try to change it under properties and click ok, it just goes straight back to read only when I look again.
I get the feeling this is the problem, but my comp won't allow me to change it! I looked it up and some other message board says its because I copied from a cd. Any ideas?

My folder is read-only as well it seems, but works fine for me. :o
(and it won't allow me to change it either, yet I did the normal install routine)
Is there a folder called 'current' in there?

No, there is no folder called current.
There is:
Binds, bitmap, cutscenes, fam, fonts, intrface, mesh, obj, RES, save_0, save_15
save_0 and save_15 are both blank
what does current have in it?

Create it and see what happens.
It is the folder that stores autosaves.
