I can't get SS2 to even install. When I click setup.exe, it thinks for a little bit and stops. i read the faq and tried the -lgntforce trick and compatibility mode, but to no avail. I run win XP with pent 4 hyper threading dual cpu, and a geforce 6800 AGP as well as Audigy 2 ZS (sound card).
Any ideas? I'm really desperate!

Try install the game manually. Just copy the main game files directly off the disc into a folder on the hard drive. :)

It just asks for my cd even if my cd is in the drive. I'm going to go find a crack. Thanks for the idea, though.

You don't have to. :)
You are missing a file called install.cfg, it has all the info for the game to detect the disc and the CRF files afaik. That file is created upon normal install I think.

Now we're back to the original problem that it won't install...
lol

This is the contents of an install.cfg if you install into the default location. Try copy that and put into an install.cfg.
(make sure 'Hide extensions of known filetypes' is unchecked in Folder options)

I found a crack that works, and with install.cfg now set up, it is reading my cd rom. But it loads most of the way and freezes now! argh!

Probably compability, try turning that off if you have it enabled.
This could also be fixed by adding the line safe_texture_manager to the file cam.cfg. :)
And since you have hyperthreading processor, don't forget to disable CPU1 in the Shock2.exe, there are many ways to do that. You can use the EXE fixer that can be downloaded in the first post of the big FAQ thread.

disregard that last message, I typed the directory in wrong for install.cfg. Now the problem is that it says: "ERROR: Direct3d device driver does not accurately report memory usage. Contact your 3d accelerator vendor for updated drivers"
I think I can figure this one out on my own. Thanks for all the help I could not have done it without you! :thumb:

Yes, and as I said, adding the line safe_texture_manager into cam.cfg will 99% likely fix it. ;)
