Sorry but I can't seem to find the PM function on a person's account. Or maybe it has to be enabled first. Help appreciated.

The simple answer is that newly registered members can't send PMs. That's to prevent a spammer registering and immediately sending messages to all members - it's happened in the past.
You should be able to send PMs now that you aren't a brand new account.

Thanks.

I've been wondering about that myself, is there a post limit or something like that? I can't find an option for PMs and I registered quite some time ago :)

Account age has nothing to do with it, as far as I know. Your status changes from "New Member" to "Member" once your post count hits 30, and then you'll be able to send those private messages. 30 is quite high for such a limit, I think, but just get posting and you'll get there! :D

You are correct that age of the account doesn't trigger anything, it's down to the nunber of posts. However, PM functionality is still possible for "New Member" accounts but not until a few posts have been made (I'm being a little vague here). However, this can be overridden if it's a problem and a message can be sent to the admins requesting it using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the forum. It's for protection against spam / mass automated PM sending and not meant to be a right of passage for new members!
Atli: you should be able to use the facility now.

Thanks for the clarification. It makes sense to have that kind of protection in place.
It hasn't really been an issue for me so far, since I've mostly been lurking. I've needed to send messages to members here twice since I registered but both times I just sent an e-mail and signed it with a link to my profile here.
I can see the option now, so when I need to send that third message, I won't have to resort to e-mail :cheeky:
