I've got greenspore disease. Drank 3 potions of cure disease but no effect. Activated one of the Altars of the Nine - Zarthir or somesuch - no effect. How can this be?

Are you sure it wasn't a shrine of Glarthir? He doesn't do anything useful.:D
I recall that happening to me a while ago, although I don't remember which disease. IIRC I cured it by eating some mandrake root instead of using a Cure Disease potion.
Maybe it's caused by having a high Spell Absorbtion?

Maybe. I found something on the net that said any altar of the nine and that was the first one I reached but I didn't exactly remember the name.
I'll go and see if I can buy some mandrake then. Thanks.

Had an idea I had some mandrake in my chest so went back home and found a dozen cure disease potions as well. Drank them all. Disease cured! So reloaded gamesave and tried a lesser number. I think 4 or 5 or 6 was enough. I could see no indication of progress though. I think the disease had a number 9 against it originally but not sure what that meant. Don't recall seeing that change. Anyway, that explains why a cure disease potion might not work - may need several. Bit like RL really.
