I've searched the net and the forums for answers to this.
On my brother's computer, he starts the first mission, can change weapons ONCE - then he is forever stuck on that weapon/item. He can keep using that item, and re-loading it, but no amount of pressing the number keys, scrolling the mouse wheel, choosing "equip" from the inventory screen, or re-binding keys can put another item/weapon in the player's hands. He's stuck with whatever he first chose.
It's really wierd. Pressing the number keys or scrolling the mousewheel clearly shows the highlight changing to the appropriate belt item, but the hands never go down and get the new item.
Well on my computer, and my other brother's computer, the game runs fine and we don't have this problem.
The computer with the problem has a GeForce 4, a wireless keyboard and mouse, Pentium 4 1gig CPU... that's off the top of my head.
We are using the 'SoldOut' "Game of the year" version of Deus Ex.

Are you playing the normal game, or is it a mod? Specifically, are there any weapon mods installed, or things like Shifter/Hardcore/etc?
I've experienced a problem like this, but only ever with a botched weapon mod where the InventoryGroup setting in the script hasn't been changed.
Also, and maybe this is a stupid question, is the game speed normal (1.0)?

Hmm, let me see if I can put this in a way that you'll understand--

It's a plain install straight off the CD, no mods. And we didn't even know there was a speed setting :)

I think I ran into this problem once, but I seem to remember it only occuring when I used the mouse wheel. I'm not sure, but I think a restart of the game solved it... or a restart of the computer... or a re-install of the game. A re-install is probably your best bet.

Mine does it quite often and it usually happens after I die.
What happens is I'll start a new game and have the same inventory I had before I died. I think it was to do with certain thing happening at the time I died, but I'm not sure what they were.

I've seen that many times too SJamieson, but I think it fixed after I patched the game. The GOTY edition should be already patched though right? Domarius, maybe you can try applying the latest patch anyway, see if it does any good.

Thanks for all your help guys - I've got a few things to try now :) Good to know other people have seen this strange behaviour too.
GOTY has patches already applied, but I'll check for an even more recent patch.

Just had this problem, with my goty edition (premier collection), a few seconds after reading this actually...cursed. A Quicksave -> Quickload cured it, however. Inventory was all wrong too, but that's beside the point.

Thanks again! Going to let my brother know.
