I had a tech question & a Google search is not answering it & only sending me on wild goose chases so far.
It's really simple. Here's a screenshot of my DCIM folder from ES File Explorer on my phone.

And here's a photo of the same folder on my laptop on Windows File Explorer (Win7) through a USB cable.

As you can see, the subfolder "100Sharp" is actually in the DCIM folder, and it's showing up in ES File Explorer as there, but it is not showing up in Windows FE, although 2 other subfolders are. So, how do I make the folder "100Sharp" show up for Windows? It has like 1000 photos on it I'd like to deal with from my laptop.

Its sounds like a permission issue, I'm guessing its the internal card which is the default location for most android phones. What phone is it? if you were on the phone to google Im guessing its a nexus..?
Have you rooted the phone yet (google allow this as long as you flash back to stock or un-root before sending it back for any repairs etc) and do you have a custom recovery partition installed? if yes to both questions then reboot into recovery mode and do a repair file permissions.
Or another workaround if your phone isn't rooted etc is to do backup all the pictures and then format the SD card from the phone. Then take a picture from the camera and check the folder name/s again.

Android devices these days don't appear as true "Mass storage" devices (e.g. memory stick) instead they use a protocol such as MTP to transfer files. If the media cache is out of date that could be why it's not showing - (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bero.sdrescan&hl=en) SDrescan may help refresh files and make them available.
Another problem that springs to mind is that it's possible that the 100Sharp is actually a link that is not being exposed over the MTP interface - Android has various redirects (links / mounts) in place so it might actually be elsewhere on your device and just shown in the DCIM area for convenience.
In either case, you might want to install (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid&hl=en_GB) Airdroid on your phone which will allow you to transfer the pictures without needing the USB cable at all.

I prefer Wifi transfer to AirDroid.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The phone is a Sharp SBM203SH, or so it says in the Device Info.
I've read about rooting, but so far have hesitated because I don't really understand it fully and haven't found it necessary yet. And I wouldn't know exactly what to do if I did that. (Jiggle with folder permissions directly?) Edit: But I don't have anything against it & might try it if I know exactly what to do to fix the problem & how not to mess anything up.
It's not either of the 2 issues Al_B mentioned (caching or linking).
When I first got the phone last summer, I remember that folder was available & I'd regularly move photos over, but somehow I installed some photo-management something or other and it's been invisible every since. I'd think it'd be a matter of reverting that change, but I don't know how. I don't feel like a clean wipe because I have hundreds of other stuff on their I don't want to have to reinstall or worry about the backing up.
I can already get the photos on my computer other ways, with Dropbox or the other things you mentioned. The issue is when I want to pull over like 300 photos at a time, it's a pain to do it wireless.

Don't root.
I'm into Android tweaking and customisation and I've never rooted.
My advice - copy everything you need, however hard it is, to your computer.
Then factory reset the phone. That photo management software has borked something.

* Rooting isn't a bad thing and you have to be aware that you can't do a lot of security & privacy relating things(block apps from accessing your private details or remove google sync adapters etc etc). Regarding rooting, you just need to know what your doing and how to un-root should you need to send the device back for warranty repair. But moving on, I did a quick search for the Sharp 203H and it didnt turn (
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285589) up much, as its not a common model. So in this instance I would shy away from rooting at this time.
* Agreed, but backing up his data and formatting the internal SD card should be the first course of action.

I've found that going into device manager with your phone unplugged from USB and removing all drivers that deal with your phone, then re-installing them helps with a lot of file access problems I've had.
Not necessarily a cure for your current situation, but the most useful app I've ever had on my android devices was AirDroid. Check it out.

Exactly as its not an access issue, but a folder/partition renaming issue within android.

Mmm, I'm in a chicken-egg problem. How am I supposed to back up like 2000 photos if I can't get access to its folder? I can upload them online, but that takes like a minute per photo! And not even that because it just crashes the program if I select "all" to transfer...
So now I'm supposed to upload them in groups of 10 or 50 at a time? Surely there's a better way. The whole point of wanting the folder access was to deal with moving so many photos... Blech. You guys have been really helpful; I'm just frustrated this feels like it's harder than it should be...
