I want you to think for a moment about what inhaling pepper spray might feel like.

When you start getting close to Montreal, and you think you see an Alien spaceship in the city, it's actually the former Olympic Stadium. Wish I would have know this, as I drove extra miles just to see what the heck that crazy thing was. Montreal is nice, reminding me of my time in Belgium. Never made it Quebec, so enjoy, and take pics.

If you're ever coming to Quebec City, you HAVE to come and say hello. We'll have a beer. Or something. In abusive quantities, even.

Banff is really beautiful! I went there a few years back, around the same time of the year you'll be there. Unfortunately at the time there were wildfires raging, so most trails were closed.
However, we unexpectedly did see bears. It was a short--maybe 2-mile hike through a wetland area, the trail on stilts, you know those wooden walkways. Coming around a bend suddenly we saw 2 black bear cubs not even 15 yards away in trees. The mother sitting right next to the trail watching over them. It could have been pretty scary, except not far behind us was a Japanese tour group, about 40 people strong. So we got to watch them for a while until the group got too close and therefore too loud, and all 3 of them took off into the woods. That was one of the reasons for me to get a better camera, because on the pictures, you can just barely make out the bears :(
Anyways. We hiked a ways up Crowfoot glacier, which was really cool. Also, in Banff check out the cave and basin (natural hot spring in a cave), the cave is not that great, but the story that goes with it is pretty interesting. Plan a day to laze away in a hot spring.
The Fairmont looks awesome, but weirdly surreal--it's huge, and right smack in the middle of a National Park. Didn't have the funds at the time to actually stay there.
Have fun!
