I think a lot of people tend to overestimate the degree to which information flows freely on a two-way basis between the American and Canadian governments. We're a good bunch of guys as long as we play ball, but when the grown-ups get together to talk Serious Business, we sometimes find ourselves standing out in the yard wondering where everybody went. This would hardly be the first time the Prime Minister woke up, got out of bed, poured himself a coffee, opened up the paper, and said GOD DAMMIT WHAT THE FUCK

The worst thing isn't just about shipping him off to Syria; the Canadian gov't sent QUESTIONS to Syria for 'interrogatory'. Even after they knew he was innocent. Frightful.

I've known about this for quite some time but finally having the final report released has just sent me over the edge. I bookmarked it so that the next time some jackass supports the US policy of 'torture is good' and 'kidnapping people who are not white and/or muslim' I will print it out and staple it all over their face.
Can he appeal the dismissal? It's clear the judge was either out of his fucking mind (national security my ass) or had serious pressure from 'someone' to throw out the case.

I am completely disgusted that you think this is recent news to Americans...
Sure, the average XBOX'er probably is unaware of this story, but he also has no idea who George Washington is either.
I have known of this story for quite sometime.
You can't exactly say that America is a nation renowned for it's excellent awareness of world news, or decent news coverage in general for that matter.
Two points. How many american news stations gave this the attention it deserved?
And how many mainstream Americans would have known about this?
Honestly?

It's not about Americans, it's about the hideous trainwreck that is their "news" media.

I will give you the fact that US media outlets report what sells, but how many international media outlets gave this story MORE attention than it deserved just because America did somthing wrong?
Many mainstream americans do not know about this still. But is it the fault of the media? or is it because it did not affect the price of gas?

Whilst I certainly want to point out that it is not my intention to turn this into a thread where all and sundry jump on the "Bash the USA" bandwagon (which I am very critical of), I do feel it is necessary to point out a couple of things. Yes, America does get a lot of heat when it screws up, but you guys need to realise that this is something that comes with being the most powerful nation in the world. Also, this is not the first act of this nature committed by the U.S. (David Hicks has been in and out of the news down here for god knows how long), and as such it is building up quite a case against the fine nation of America, which is also why people take special interest when something like this happens.

So how much attention did this really "deserve" then?
