The Canadians
told on him to the USA, but thats the extent of their stupidity.
I'm pretty sure we didn't know about this whole "send people to foreign countries so they can be tortured by people who aren't American" policy, either.

I thought Extraordinary Rendition was reasonably well known about? I know it's common knowledge NOW, and considering that governments generally find out about the questionable actions of one country well in advance of the people they govern (ironically, it's generally the citizens of the country using the questionable methods who find out last), I'd have thought the Canadian government would have been aware of it at the time.
Of course, I might have either my assumptions or my timescale hopelessly wrong. I don't remember exactly when Extraordinary Rendition became news.

Extraordinary Rendition is an awful phrase.
Nicker on 19/9/2006 at 21:18
Yeah, Extraordinary Rendition is how I'd describe a particularly fine musical performance, not the deliberate export of humans into perilous situations.
A lot of the delays and lies that caused this to drag on were Canadian officials and federal ploice covering their cowardly asses. That they would allow a man they knew was innocent to face a year and a half of torture and then relive that in a protracted enquiry process, says buckets about their humanity and fitness for office.

I am completely disgusted that the Arar case is only recently news to the Americans. This has been in our papers for years.
You wanna help me burn our media down? I've got a lighter.

I know, I was mainly using it for irony value. It's like "ethnic cleansing". I'd refer to it as importing torture, personally.

Sure, the average XBOX'er probably is unaware of this story, but he also has no idea who George Washington is either.
I have known of this story for quite sometime.

One of the articles I linked in my op indicated the RCMP had no idea we were going to pipeline Arar to one of the worst countries in the world.

Well, maybe it's both, and fingernail is actually a CIA operative. :ebil:
