PcGamer thinks you can level up by watching NPCs practice, but I have yet to see a slider move. is there a key to it, or was this feature only in the version they tested? Ive tried watching for about 5 real world minutes (I guess that about a half hour to an hour in game time) without the slightest stat bar movement.
Thanks

Hearing this it struck me as a little odd although on reflection I like the idea. Hopefully it is so sophisticated that you level up faster when you perform an action after watching someone do it.
I don't however know whether it's possible. Much too busy running around playing the knight errant to watch any of the NPCs

PS Have you seen any of the NPCs do anything odd. I had heard they can behave pretty erratically but have yet to see the evidence.

It is indeed possible to increase your skills by watching someone train, but only in certain places. It happened to me in
the Imperial City Arena area. Outside the Arena there are two NPC's practicing hand-to-hand combat. After watching them for a short while (a minute max.) my hand-to-hand combat skill increased 5 points!
What level was your skill when it advanced (as in, is this more likely to occur when you're at lower levels, or should you just seek out the "special" practicers)?
Also I wonder if it's a one time deal (like skill books) or if you can keep coming back (like paid trainers)?

I don't remember but it was low (still is) since hand-to-hand isn't a major skill for me and i prefer a good blade :cheeky:
But it is mentioned in the official strategy guide and it doesn't mention anything about current skill level so i assume that doesn't matter. The guide doesn't say anything about multiple increases.
According to the guide there is only one other place you can gain skill by watching:
The plaza outside Cloud Ruler Temple where you can gain blade and block, 2 points each, by watching two Blades train.
It'd be kind of cool if you could level up slightly in skills by having NPCs hit you with them.
IE: if you got from 30->100 (70 pts) in blunt by hitting sword users with a mace(who would be hitting you with a sword), go from 30->50ish in blade.
Would be good to raise those skills you may never use.

That has the potential though to make stat bonuses go through the roof, as all of your minor skills gain points while your going about using major skills, so you could be close to getting +5 to everything you raise each level, making you stupidly powered pretty quick.
Then again, a little planning can acomplish this already.
