I've wondered this for a while now.
Is there a way to tweak the weapon degrade setting so its not so high, without just turning it off?
I think I remember how to use that editor.... is that what I need? Or is there maybe a mod I can download that someone already made?

Nothing more than changing a text file. The readme of the patched version explains how.

Either that or using the unbreakable weapons to your advantage. (I think they do break, it just takes immense amounts of firing)

(

The config variable in user.cfg:
Code:
gun_degrade_rate 0.3
is a multiplier for the rate at which your weapons degrade. For example, to completely eliminate weapon degradation & breakage, set the value to 0. To tone it down, set it somewhere between 1 and 0.

What is it (in ShockEd) that made the unbreakable weapons unbreakable?

Gun->Reliability property; Break Threshold manually set to 0.00 on those objects.
Don't ask me why they did this.
