It's been pretty well covered, but you need to get a license in the state that is your registered primary residence.
If you move to another state and take up permanent residence, then you will need to get a license from that state after a period of time (varies with the state).
If your car is also registered in a particular state and you move and re-establish residence, then the automobile must be relicensed in the new state.
In California, it's within 6 months for the auto reg. Other states may vary.
Although all the states honor the validity of another states driving license, you can't hold two valid licenses. It must be one, and one only, for a particular state.

While technically true, in the last two years I've met two people who simultaneously had valid licenses from both CA and another state (Nevada and Washington) long after the grace period had passed. Like a year after. The way that they both found this out was by getting pulled over and accidentally giving the officer the old license. Apparently the state DMVs don't talk to each other as efficiently as they should.

I should have qualified that with the word "legally". Hell, you can commit murder if you don't get caught.
[enter extreme sarcasm mode]I had presumed that the persons frequenting TTLG had the mental capacity to understand.
Exceptions occur in everything, I guess.[/end sarcasm mode]
