I have Win XP now. Thief 2 seems to run okay (though I didn't look for stars or fog).
Can I still install DDFIX ????
I want the 32bit rendering and non hard coded 640x480 scroll display features.
Or is it only for people who can't run Thief at all ? I don't want to mess my installation up.

Thief can run without Ddfix, too, but sometimes graphics look ugly on modern hardware. It's recommended to install it if you want your Thief to look well. Actually, Thief+Ddfix+A modern graphics card looks even better than THief-NoDdfix+Older graphics card.

I believe you will not see the old 3-4 secs black screen resolution change when you move from game to reading a paper/book as it happened without DDFix. So it's worth the use ;-)

Woo hoo !!!!! Thanks fellas !! I HATE the pause when reading scrolls !!
So all I need to do is back up my T2 EXE file and CFGs before applying the patch (just incase) ??

DDFIX
THE APPLICATION FAILED TO INITIALIZE PROPERLY......
Guess this must mean I don't have NET 2.x.
A 22.4 mb download - THAT'S how much I hate the resolution switching scrolls :-)
2.0 is okay, right ? I don't need NET 3.5 ???

I think I installed the latter. You should be fine with either of them. The resolution change also happens between the game and the menu/map/objectives and that's the main reason I use DDFix. It also gets rid of the ugly dithering. If it doesn't work for you it's easy to uninstall without uninstalling Thief (2).

I've installed Thief 2 under a fresh and dewy Winxp install. Unwillingly, it starts normally, but since I've applied the DDFix and Widescreen patches all I get is a black screen - even the menu isn't shown, altough the game is running (I hear the sounds of the menu and I can navigate, if blindly, among the keys).
WTF?

There is one option you should try, if you click on "Expert Settings" (a.k.a. manually editing ddfix.ini). Last one is the one you should try tackling with ;-)
