You don't like giant mecha because it's cliche and overused. Then do name me a few anime/other movies that you liked, are popular and don't dabble in cliches.

I'm not going to bother because no matter what I say, you'll just say "AHA! That's got X or Y cliche! You're a hypocrite and possibly a Nazi! HAHAHA YOU'RE WRONG I WIN who wants to watch me masturbate with a supreme pizza wrapped around my wang? I doooooo!"
Or words to that effect.

GETTING ALL THIS BACK ON TOPIC
not that I really care, but c'mon- arguing about giant robot anime in a thread about an fps war game?
The divisive Kieron Gillen wrote what I thought was an excellent (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/11/19/wot-i-think-about-that-level/) opinion piece about the airport mission on RPS last week. I'm amazed nobody brought it up before. The short version is that he wasn't offended by the violence so much as annoyed by the stupid implausibility of the scenario and how blatantly obvious it was that IW was trying to be 'controversial'. Whatever you may think about him he makes some excellent points.
On a related note, some Swiss human rights types studied war games for (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8373794.stm) violations of the Geneva conventions. I have no problem with studies of this nature, but I think you will find greater incitements to bloodshed in the voice and text chat logs of the average online game than you will in the actual content.

That's what gets me when people hail this as a move toward more 'mature' video games, not just in the tits-and-violence sense. Anyone can be controversial, but does that automatically confer a step towards the mature end of the spectrum?

Not going to lie, "Why the fuck can't the player just open fire on the terrorists" was at the forefront of my mind when I saw the youtube video.

Wow, anime discussion. Who thought something good will come out of my 24h ban. :plane:

What the fuck did you get banned for? You haven't been any more Koki-ish than usual...

I played the level before being aware of any controversy surrounding it, and it didn't feel to me any more controversial than the rest of the game. It felt just like another level. I was annoyed, however, that I was shot in the fucking face at the end of it. All that work for nothing.
