Get someone to buy it in another region and gift it to you? Can that be done, perhaps?

It certainly can be done. I've done so in the past to get a couple titles that were unavailable in my region (Max Payne 1 & 2).
The game highly likely uses Steamworks DRM on every copy, so Steam activation would be required regardless. A year from now I might buy a dirt cheap CD key off one of those e-tailers that deals in them. As a multiplayer title, it's a lost cause but the SP will probably pretty good.

True!
I'd just like to put it out there that if anyone from a different region would like to try that, I'd be up for helping them out.

Same here. I'll put my hat in the ring and say that if I can help in any way save you guys the bullshit extra costs Steam imposes upon you, I will do what I can via gifting and/or whatever else needs to be done.

Nobody's playing it? But it sold five million copies in a day.
For my part, I'm loving it. But then again, I'm a COD whore. No one does frenetic action like COD.

It wants to be generation kill. It's not. It's pretty good though, although as always I'm halfway through and have yet to have ANY idea what's going on (except 'russians' or something) because all of the exposition is done via 'pithy' cut-scene/CSI bullshit-o-vision one-liners that sound like the baldwin in Pearl Harbour and people trying to be heard over the noise of a helicopter. Shooty bang is a particularly fine example of such, however.

Didn't buy it, never intended to (even without all the console port crap), and never will. I just don't enjoy linear shooters as much as I used to. I tried to replay COD 2 recently. Boring as fuck. Same with the World at War demo. Maybe it's the WW2 setting that's getting old, because I did enjoy the COD4 demo a little bit more. But the gameplay still boils down to the same thing, shoot, reload, shoot, reload, and shoot some more. I swear you can finish those games with your brain turned off (possibly even with your eyes closed), you don't even have to aim or anything, most enemies go down automatically, you just have to shoot randomly and keep advancing. The game basically plays itself most of the time.
I mean they're still somewhat fun because of all the nice scripted sequences but it really only works the first time around and considering these games are usually barely 5 hours long, they're really not worth more than 10 euros for me.

A million copies sold for every hour of gameplay. Wonderful!
