California Burning, on a winter's day. - by Nicker

It is difficult to comprehend the destruction still unfolding in the Los Angeles area. Tens of thousands of people without homes, everything they owned reduced to ashes.
The bravery and dedication of firefighters and emergency services must be commended. Canada is sending people and equipment to help. Australia, in the middle of its own fire season, is prepared to send whatever and whomever it can to help.
But arsonists are starting new blazes, winds are spreading flames, looters are robbing homes and certain newly minted criminals are weaponizing the suffering of others for their political gain.
Stay Strong, California.

Horrific.
What else is it gonna take for those in power realize we need a short term geoegineering solution to global warming?
"Reducing emissions" will have 0 effect for centuries

The only good thing to come out of this is that not only did James Woods house burn down but he burst into tears on live TV because of it.

You have a real talent for taking stinking dumps in public. First in the Jimmy Carter thread and now here. Don't you have indoor plumbing?

I have been anxiously following this due to having friends out there. So far it hasn't spread to their homes. It's hard to understand how dry it is there unless you have been. Any spark can destroy thousands of acres. So many have not fared as well. I even checked the Malibu area because of our favorite seafood place, Neptune's Net, and mention of Topanga Canyon burning. In doing so I found out it is in the movie, Point Break. Unlike North Carolina where it wiped out my favorite hotel along the Broad river, it has fared well.
I'll never understand politicizing disasters. So many have lost so much, and not just the rich, we all lose places that only exist in memory now.

Well what's there to say except 'goodness me, this is a terrible thing! hope things get better" I've never understood the point of these kinds of threads on any forums, people posting threads about bad events. Almost all of us have access to news channels, we know about this story. If you want an echo chamber, okay I do think it's bad that Los Angeles is having wildfires. And I hope the situation improves. So I guess that means that you and I are both good people.
So, I'll let you have your riveting discussions about this topic in peace now.

I came here to tell everyone I hate being here.
If you don't like the topic of a thread, feel free to ignore it.

Back in the 2000s I had friends in California when the fires started, and they posted pictures of what looked more like hell than LA.
Several friends were affected, but I haven't had contact with them since mid 2012. I wonder if they're affected this time.
