Possible smallish spoilers
Ok, so Caius has been recalled to the mainland, and he's letting me use his house as a base. (This all happened a while ago, and Ive moved in and all). Anyway, off I go to do some quests, come back, rest a bit, dump some loot, and off I go again. I've done this a good few times now, and was just getting used to having a nice home to come back to after a long day of thieving and killing. Anyway, I'm now a Master Thief, and am on to the fourth quest from the Ashlanders at Urishilki (sp?) camp. Imagine my surprise whe, after a long slog through the wastelands, I finally get home to discover my house is gone. Gone, I say. The building is still there, but the front door is missing and the hillside now extends into the room. And the roof appears to be gone when looking in from the front door, but I went up the steps to the roof area and it's still apparently there (jumps up and down to make sure). I had placed two lanterns on the porch walls (nice to see a lamp burning from afar and all) and they're gone too, but their ambient blue glow isn't.
The main problem is that I had some seriously funky loot, potions etc. stashed there (I mean serious, James Brown-level funky). Anyway, I'm sure it's some kind of bug, and there's no way to fix it (I'm going back to an earlier savegame to see if it still happens - I'm on day 80 or thereabouts, level 22 or so). I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and would maybe warn anyone else who's living there to move to a potentially safer abode.
Bollocks. And things were going so well...still a great game though, and this is the first really troublesome bug I've encountered. Anyway, have a laugh at the misfortunes of the Master Thief who came home one night to discover someone had stolen his house...

I've never had this problem, but if you had changed the master file that might have something to do with it. A problem I had when messing with the master file was panning the interior maps around instead of centering them. This probably isnt your problem, but IF it is, or if you have no idea how to fix it, just uninstall and reinstall, and backup your save files.

Nope, I haven't screwed with anything. It's probably just the fickle hand of fate teaching me a lesson...

Key lesson: don't pick homes in landslide areas. :cheeky:

If the loot is still there but you just can't reach it, you could use the console to turn of clipping ("tcl" I think, or type "help" for a list of commands) and float through the walls and the mud to pick up the items..

Amazing...I decided to try those console commands before moving back to an old savegame. So, I reload the quicksave and transport to Balmora. As I'm walking towards the river from the mage's guild, I realise that a large flight of steps is missing, and I'm walking where it should be down a grassy slope. Very strange, but not half as strange as the reappearance of my house, door intact, loot safely inside. (I quickly made a savegame with my character in the room). This is the same quicksave file I was using last night, and I'm sure I reloaded at least once to check if it was an odd bug. Anyway, I'm very happy now, but am considering moving into one of the larger manors on the other side of the river, just to be sure (I figure the bigger the house, the less likely the mysterious house-fairy will be able to nick it). So, to anyone experiencing wierd bugs like this, reload a few times before you give up...
