You can skip the Blades missions completely and still finish the game. You just need to find the... Nerevarine Shrine? Ah, it's been too long. But once there, grab the Moon-and-Star Ring. From there you can continue like normal, making yourself Hortator, or you can go get sunder and keening and beat Dagoth Ur yourself (without the wraithguard.)
And if you totally screwup, there's always the backpath method which I so kindly posted a while back :cheeky:

Yeah, when I was running about I ran into that silly moon and star place, I opened the door and found all the crap before even going to see cauis the second time. but then I re-loaded.
It's funny, the main quest is potentially smaller than most of the faction quests.
